Tonight was our son's last Upwards game. If you haven't heard of Upwards, it is a Christian organized and run basketball league that focuses on God, rather than the game. For Kindergarteners, they don't even keep score Each game/practice includes a short video and group devotional and then after the game, the teams gather together and do a team devotional and hand out stars to each player for different things like sportsmanship, Christ-likeness, best effort, best defense, best offense, etc. There are more...I just can't remember them. Anyway, it rewards everyone and makes it so the focus is on the team rather than just one person. This was a first year, and it was great.
Well, our son has strep, diagnosed yesterday. He told us this morning - before we even had a chance to discuss it with him - that he didn't feel well enough to play but that he'd like to just go watch. For a 5 year old who LOVES anything and everything sports, this was a huge. So I had to brag a little bit...without either one of telling him to, he put others before him and handled it very well. We certainly are proud of our son for choosing such a Godly path to follow. We now continue to pray that this is the path he continues to take. Praise the Lord!
