Child trafficking is a huge problem in Haiti, particularly since the aftermath of the earthquake. It wasn't all that long ago that ABC did a story entitiled "How to buy a slave in 10 hours" that took their reporter to Haiti. The problem is that those who are trafficking these innocent children are Haitians, not Americans. Most, if not all, Americans who seek to adopt a child from Haiti does so because they want to give an orphaned child a home, not force them into working for them.
UNICEF does not see International Adoption that way though. They see adoptions as a way of trafficking kids,not loving them. And because they have single handedly put a stop to allowing legitimately orphaned kids leave Haiti to their adoptive families, those that could help these new orphans can't because they don't have the capacity to help them. AND, what's worse is that children who are in desperate need of medical attention that cannot be provided them in a field hospital are dying because they cannot get the necessary paperwork that would allow them to leave the country to go to a stateside hospital.
