I got word today that we have been in IBESR for a couple of weeks now, which means that the office that was out of paper finally got paper. After 20 months since starting paperwork and 9 months after agreeing to adopt Joshua, we have actually started the adoption process within the Haitian system.
I'm surprised you can't hear me screaming from where you are!
So, from here - we have to get approval from IBESR first. This is the division of the government that regulates adoptions, etc. They make the rules as to WHO can adopt and grant the approval. After we get approval from IBESR, we go into the courts or the Ministry of Justice and commonly referred to as Parquet. Once we're through this part, he is legally ours, but he can't come home yet. After MOJ, we go through the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) to get his immigration approval and his passport printed. Once that his done, we have to go to the US Embassy to get his VISA, and then he can come home. All told, we're hopeful that we will celebrate his 2nd birthday with him. And we still pray, every day, that he will join us for Christmas this year!
