Well, as with everything in our adoption, we have another hurdle to jump. Background...the 1974 adoption law in Haiti says that adoptive parents can be either single or married. The parent(s) must be 35. If they are married, only one needs to be 35, but they must have been married at least 10 years and have no biological children. If the adoptive parent(s) did not meet these requirements, they could seek a waiver from the President.
Since we started this process in October 2006, this has not been required from adoptive parents...until now. Yup, the powers that be down in Haiti have decided that if adoptive parents don't meet these requirements, then they have to seek Presidential dispensation to proceed with their adoption. And since neither of us are 35 and we have two biological children, we need the dispensation.
Our file is currently in the President's office. We are praying that this will be a quick step and that the President will process the many, many files that are finding their way onto his desk right now.
We completely trust our Heavenly Father in this...he knew this would happen. This is only a surprise to us. But I continue to hold to the promises of God:
"Therefore I do not lose heart. Though outwardly I am wasting away, yet inwardly I am being renewed day by day. For my light and momentary troubles are achieving for me an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So I fix my eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (italics mine)
We are confident that we are walking the path that God has asked us to walk and we continue to trust Him and His perfect timing and His perfect plan. We pray continually in faith and with thanksgiving for the many ways he continues to guide and strenghthen and provide for us through this process. Our God is so good!!
